Stand By Me Poem

Today
I just wonder
will this be the day
Today
I just feel
that today will be the day
STAND BY ME
thats all i want you to do
STAND BY ME
when im feeling darker than blue
STAND BY ME
when you see clouds of grey
STAND BY ME
so that i know With you im ok
STAND BY ME
hold me close and near
STAND BY ME
so i will have no fear
STAND BY ME
when everything fails
STAND BY ME
I'll know that you was always standing there.

Stand By Me Lyrics

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we'll see
No I won't be afraid, no I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry, no I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
And darlin', darlin', stand by me, oh stand by me
Stand by me, stand by me, stand by me-e, yeah
Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me, oh now now stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me
Darlin', darlin', stand by me-e, stand by me
Oh stand by me, stand by me, stand by me

Setting

Stand by Me was set in the 1950’s, Starting off in a small country town. Throughout the movie the boys wondered through different areas of America (Greenland’s) trying to search for a dead body, they follow the main train track which nearly got them into trouble (hurt). The boys also come across lakes while walking through amazing Green lands, and a few times it showed us dull, dry and dusty areas. In the end when the boys make it home safely it shows the 4 boys all going their separate ways.

Memories

In year 7 I went on camp with 3 year 7 classes. We went to the “Woodhouse.” I hung out in a group with about 4 girls. We were really close we had been friends since year 5 all of us. We would do all the activities together; help each other we told each other all our secrets, we had so much in common. Once year 7 finished we promised we would all keep in contact. It has been 3 years now and I have not caught up with any of the girls.
We did talk at the start of year 8 on facebook but slowly we drifted apart. This was because we suddenly found that none of us girls had similarities we had all moved into different environments i.e. schools and groups. We all felt like we didn’t know each other anymore because we had just moved on and matured.
We say hello a few times on facebook but never actually can have a full on conversation telling each other our secrets like we did because it just doesn’t feel the same. People move on, it is a fact of life. You meet new people making new friends.

Theme

To me the theme lies within the friendships and connections made between the four that summer. Like in "The Body", the film shows Gordie and Chris's friendship becoming stronger. I believe the title "Stand By Me" illustrates the theme of the boys staying together, through thick and thin. Even shows when the older boys came and said that they were going to take the body off of the 4 boys even though Gordie and his friends found it first. Gordie stood up with Chris and stood by together.

The Characters

The main characters in the film Stand By Me are Gordie LaChance (Wil Wheaton), and his three friends Chris Chambers (River Phoenix), Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman), and Vern Tessio (Jerry O'Connell), all 12 years old.

Each has a physical and emotional burden.  Chris is from a family of criminals and alcoholics and, despite his intelligence, he breaks rules doesn’t listen to anyone only because he has no real family figure to look upon. Teddy is an odd and physically deformed after his mentally-unstable father held his ear to a stove and nearly burned it off, forcing him to wear a hearing aid. Vern, is overweight timid and is easily scared, and is often picked on because of the way he act around people. Gordie is a quiet boy with a talent for telling stories and writing, he was rejected by his father following the death of his football star older brother in an automobile accident. The story is narrated by the adult Gordie (Richard Dreyfuss), who is writing the memories he had faced with him and his friends.

The Plot

A group of friends hear a story about the dead body of a boy hit by a train. The friends decide to take a trip to find the dead body. They make up cover stories to their parents and set out, following the railroad tracks.

When they stop to get a snack they discover they've forgotten the food. They pool their money only to find little money and make a trip to the store. Along the way, they have several adventures, they get caught on a bridge with a train coming and they get off just in time and while swimming across a swamp they get covered with leeches.

After a couple days, the boys finally find the body, still in disbelief They're confronted by a group of local bullies, but after a short standoff the boys and the bullies go their separate ways. On their way home the boys are pretty quiet, not knowing of-age exactly what to say after seeing what they've seen

This coming- story is about four boys in the 1950's. Along the way, they laugh, cry and get into some trouble. They also learn to overcome their fears and manage their feelings. In the end, they all end up changing very much and realize more of what life is really about.
